Shia LaBeouf Will Do ‘Whatever Is Asked’ For ‘Nymphomaniac’ MTV.com

It appeared that Shia LaBeouf’s experience with onscreen nudity wouldn’t end with the recent Sigur Rós video. Last week, word came down in the line that he would star in Lars von Trier’s next movie “Nymphomaniac.” Reports of the casting left several big questions about LaBeouf’s involvement unanswered, but in a recent interview with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz, the actor let us in on all the messy details.

The “Melancholia” director’s next film is said to follow a woman throughout her sexual life. What gives “Nymphomaniac” that signature von Trier spin of controversy is that the Danish director plans to make two versions of his film, one less explicit than the other. Early talk even suggested that the hard-core version would include unsimulated sex scenes.

LaBeouf joining the cast seemed to imply that he too would participate in the explicit scenes, and he confirmed that he is willing to go as far as von Trier asks.

LaBeouf told MTV News that he knows what he’s getting into with “Nymphomaniac.” “[Von Trier] is very dangerous,” he said. “He’s the most dangerous dude that I’ve ever showed up for. I’m terrified. I’m so terrified, which is why I have to go. We’ll see what happens.”

But how far will LaBeouf and von Trier go with “Nymphomaniac”? “[The movie] is what you think it is,” LaBeouf said. “It is Lars von Trier, making a movie about what he’s making. For instance, there’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening.”

“Nymphomaniac” won’t be the first movie to show actual sex onscreen. “Intimacy” from director Patrice Chéreau famously went there in 2001, but LaBeouf said von Trier’s movie will be different, adding that he and the rest of the cast are prepared for anything. “Whatever is asked. I think we all are,” he said. “I’ve seen ‘Intimacy.’ [Von Trier is] talking about something different. … It’s going to be a wild movie.”

Do you think Shia will bare it all in “Nymphomaniac”? Tell us in the comments!

Back atop AP rankings, USC may have thrived from being scrubbed clean CBSSports.com

By Dennis Dodd | Senior College Football Columnist

Aug. 18, 2012 4:28 PM ET

Probation has been a good look for USC.

You have to admit that now. The Trojans’ anointment as the AP’s preseason No. 1 clinched it. Short of winning a national championship the last two years, we wouldn’t have written or talked about them this much if they weren’t on probation.

There would be no cries of injustice in June 2010. There would be no hill to climb, no comeback to make, no “plan” developed by Lane Kiffin to keep the Trojans competitive. No overachievement to celebrate.

Matt Barkley would have had an easier time heading to the NFL. Even USC’s quarterback himself has to admit that now. What is it he was calling the 2012 season? Unfinished business.

A dynasty most likely would have continued without the NCAA penalties, but where’s the breaking news in that? Instead, USC breaking bad has become a modern miracle in coaching, roster juggling, recruiting and talent acquisition. In a backdoor, twisted kind of way, USC has almost benefitted from having gone on probation for Reggie Bush’s misdeeds.

You have to admit that now.

The program has been scrubbed clean.

Tyrann Mathieu will sit out season and go through drug rehab USA TODAY

By Glenn GuilbeauGannett Louisiana

BATON ROUGE As the sports world has weighed in all week on exactly where and when former LSU star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu should next play football, Mathieu and his family audibled to a more sensible decision.

Mathieu, a New Orleans native, is in drug rehabilitation in Houston at former NBA star John Lucas’ Treatment and Recovery center. Football apparently will come second for now.

Mathieu’s uncle Tyrone Mathieu told Fox 8 News in New Orleans on Thursday that his nephew has been at Lucas’ center since Monday. Tyrone Mathieu has been serving as a father to the Honey Badger as Mathieu’s actual father has been in prison.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva last Friday alluded to the 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist receiving counseling when Alleva and LSU coach Les Miles announced that Mathieu had been permanently dismissed from the team for rules violations and behavioral issues. Lucas, who battled drug addiction during his career, has been helping wayward athletes and otehrs with similar problems.

Because of student privacy laws, LSU officials cannot say exactly why Mathieu was dismissed, but people with knowledge have said it is because he tested positive multiple times on drug tests over the last year that revealed marijuana.

Last weekend, Mathieu visited lower division McNeese State in Lake Charles, where he could be eligible to play immediately, but he has told those close to him he did not like the visit and was considering perhaps going to LSU again with the slim hopes of getting back on the team in 2013. Mathieu cannot transfer to a upper division school and be eligible until the 2013 season. He may also be interested in playing at lower division Nicholls State in Thibodaux, which is only about an hour from New Orleans and where three former teammates of his at St. Augustine High play.

Miles spoke to Mathieu on the phone Tuesday night.

“I just wanted him to know that we’ll support him in whatever he wants to do and help him where we can,” he said.

“At this point in time, he needs to do the things that make him happy and that make sense for his future. If he does that, we’ll all be happy.”

Miles said he told Mathieu just to make a great decision and do the right things.

Regardless of where Mathieu next plays college football or whether

Wichita City Council to decide whether to approve fluoridation or put it on … Kansas.com

A petition drive seeking the fluoridation of Wichita’s water supply has been declared successful, giving the City Council two options: either approve fluoridation or let the city’s residents decide in November whether they want it.

The council will discuss the options at its meeting Tuesday, and public comment will be allowed. The meeting starts at 9 a.m.

“I think it will be a pretty extensive conversation,” City Manager Bob Layton said. “From talking to the council members, they’ve received a lot of e-mails, so they expect significant public comment.”

In July, amid budget-balancing, council members said that they expected to address fluoride eventually, but that it was not a priority for them. A petition drive by a coalition called Wichitans for Healthy Teeth forced the issue.

The group collected 11,000 signatures on a petition calling for fluoridation and submitted it to the city clerk Aug. 3. The requisite number of signatures was verified Thursday, so state statute requires the council to take one of two actions: approve an ordinance to fluoridate the water, or call for the question to be put to a vote. The council has until Sept. 11 to get the question on the November ballot if it decides to go that route.

“The clock is ticking,” Layton said. “If they’re going to … put it on the November ballot … it means they probably have to start that process on Tuesday.”

Only one council member on Friday – Janet Miller – said outright that she would support an ordinance to fluoridate Wichita’s water.

“I am definitely a supporter of water fluoridation,” Miller said. “I would support either of those options. If there are enough of us that want to go ahead and do it (fluoridation), I would vote in support of that. If the majority prefer to put it on the ballot, I support that.”

Council member James Clendenin said he thought it would be best to put the issue on the ballot.

“This is going to affect a lot of people,” Clendenin said.

Council member Michael O’Donnell said he would support putting it on the ballot as well, “mainly because water affects every person. Water is the most basic resource. … Water is intimate.”

Other council members were noncommittal.

“I’m having some quality conversations with some quality people,” Pete Meitzner said. “We’re hearing from all over the world.” He said he was trying to filter out people who would not be directly affected by Wichita’s decision.

Brown recluse infestations on rise

TULSA – This season a growing number of Tulsans are reporting dangerous spider sightings.

A mild winter appears to have ushered in an unusually high number of brown recluse spiders, also known as fiddlebacks. And now the summer’s drought is bringing them indoors.

David Grady from Mother Nature’s Pest Control says the spiders are drawn to parts of the home where they can find moisture.

“The porcelain toilet, it’s cold to our touch,” Grady said. “But they can actually get a drink of water off that.”

Resident Sheila Disler called in an exterminator after she noticed a large number of brown recluse in her home.

“I think they are worse than I’ve ever seen them,” she said. “We’ve seen a lot this summer. Especially in the bathrooms. I had one on my towel the other day.”

Grady found a dozen brown recluse crawling over adhesive boards around Disler’s water heater.

“I’ve heard horror stories about what they have done to people,” Disler said. “So I knew calling in the professionals was a good idea.”

Disler had good reason to worry.

Dr. Theron Bliss with Omni Medical Group says the spider’s venom can cause skin irritation, disfigurement or even death.

“It can be fatal in rare cases. There is potential,” Bliss said. “Those are the ones we want to catch early.”

Bliss says children and the elderly are at the highest risk.

Exterminating products are available at most local hardware stores, but if you have a serious infestation, Grady says it’s best to call in a professional.

Brown recluses becoming a problem in some areas

By Tracy Clemons

St. Charles County, MO (KSDK) – Thanks to the summer heat, brown recluse spiders are becoming “not so recluse” this year.

An exterminator sent us pictures from a home where he says he found hundreds of spiders.

The problem at Fire Station 1 in Cottleville started in the spring.

“We had hoped to confine them to our Station 1, but they have since spread to all four of our fire stations,” said Asst. Chief Scott Freitag with the Cottleville Fire Protection District.

Freitag says they brought in the pros from McCarthy Pest Control as soon as they noticed the problem.

“They did verify that we were dealing with a brown recluse spider, which is unnerving to people who stay in the fire stations,” he said.

“Our calls for brown recluse problems right now are up about 80 percent. So we’re very active in combating these things on a daily basis,” said Bob Richardson with McCarthy Pest Control.

Richardson is an entomologist. He says the spiders love attics, but the heat from this summer pushed them down into people’s bedrooms and living rooms. He says everyone reacts differently to the spider bites.

“Some people get bitten and have no reaction. Other people get bitten and they have to amputate the limb because they can’t stop the infection from the spider,” said Richardson.

Matt Ornsby, who works with Salvo’s Pest Control, sent us photos from inside a home he treated.

Fire station 1 isn’t as bad, but Freitag is still concerned.

“Another one of our concerns besides the safety, health, and well-being of our fire fighters in our stations is control the spread of them so they don’t take them home to their homes and families,” said Freitag.

Richardson says if you see one, there’s more where they came from.

“Have someone come and look. The price of one bite is way more than what you’d have to pay someone to get rid of these things,” said Richardson.

If you’ve seen brown spiders around your house and aren’t sure what they are, he suggests you put down glue boards to catch them and call a professional to see what kind it is, and how to get rid of them.

Review: ‘The Expendables 2′ is a kick Los Angeles Times

By Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times Film Critic

August 16, 2012, 5:45 p.m.

“The Expendables 2″arrives jam-packed and fully loaded with main man Sly Stallone still leading the charge, followed by that wild bunch of aging brawn. There is some new blood in Liam Hemsworth and a lot of very old blood with nearly every AARP action hero in the book turning up at some point. And the kill count reaches into the ca-zillions.

But somehow all that testosterone-infused blow-’-em-up craziness turns out to be kind of a kick.

Director Simon West hasn’t messed much with the basic formula of Barney’s (Stallone) buffed-up band of misfits saving the day, though the camp factor has been ratcheted up considerably and the action is even more over the top than in its 2010 predecessor. The central wrecking crew is composed of Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunner (Dolph Lundgren), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) and Toll Road (Randy Couture). The fight has shifted from Latin America to Asia, but freedom is once again on the line. The guy responsible for this desert storm is brutally played by kickboxing greatJean-Claude Van Damme a villain named Vilain (sic).

Like the original, “Expendables 2″ starts with a brazen bid to rescue someone from imminent torture and death, this time in Nepal. Since Barney and the guys don’t really do anything on the down-low, it is a breathless stretch of crash

Liriano wins 1st for Sox, thanks to 5 HRs Philadelphia Daily News

ALEX RIOS HIT a three-run homer against his former team and Francisco Liriano earned his first victory with the Chicago White Sox in a 7-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.

Tyler Flowers, Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez and Dewayne Wise all hit solo home runs as the White Sox matched a season high by going deep five times. Chicago has hit 27 home runs in its past 13 games. The power surge helped Chicago win its first series in Toronto since 2006.

Viciedo and Flowers hit consecutive long balls in the fifth inning, the eighth time this season the White Sox have gone back-to-back. It was the fourth time this season the Blue Jays have allowed back-to-back home runs.

Play was halted for 4 minutes in the seventh while a fan received medical attention and was taken away on a stretcher. Ambulance sirens could be heard outside the stadium as the fan was carted off, still receiving CPR. There was no word on the fan’s condition.

Liriano (4-10) allowed two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings to win for the first time since July 6 at Texas, while pitching for Minnesota. The lefthander, who walked one and struck out six, was traded to Chicago on July 28.

Liriano came in 0-3 with a 5.09 ERA in five career games against Toronto, but kept the Blue Jays in check after a two-run, three-hit second inning, retiring 13 straight batters in one stretch.

Chicago’s last series win at Rogers Centre came when they took two of three in August 2006.

In other games
* At Baltimore, Clay Buchholz shook off a rocky start to earn his 11th win, Dustin Pedroia singled in the tiebreaking run in the sixth inning and the Boston Red Sox beat the Orioles, 6-3, to avoid a three-game sweep.

Serving as designated hitter for the first time this season, Jacoby Ellsbury went 0-for-4 to end his 38-game hitting streak against Baltimore.

In other news, infielder Wilson Betemit has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Orioles with torn cartilage in his right wrist.

* At New York, Craig Gentry turned a spot start into a tiebreaking hit and the Texas Rangers avoided a four-game sweep in a matchup of AL division leaders, rallying past the Yankees, 10-6.

Texas had lost eight straight at Yankee Stadium overall. The hard-hitting Rangers had done little in this series, too, totaling only four runs before
